Fobs and Air Keys

Fobs – what are they and how many can I have?

Fobs are the electronic keys that provide access through your building to your unit door, business, parking space. Residents can also access the strata recreational facilities and the Glasshouse pool and gym.  Most stratas have limits on the number of fobs that can be issued to a residential unit. Residential Services Management (RSM) and Security can advise you of any limits.

Check with your strata committee if you feel you need special consideration to have more than the generally allowed number of fobs.

They are $25 each.

Air keys – what are they and how many can I have?

Air keys are the remotes that open garage roller doors and boom gates.  Most stratas have limits on the number of air keys that can be issued to a residential unit. Residential Services Management (RSM) and Security can advise you of any limits.

Check with your strata committee if you feel you need special consideration to have more than the generally allowed number of air keys.

They are $60 each.

Appropriate Use of Fobs and Air Keys

Fobs and air keys are only for use by occupants of your unit (or another occupant of your strata building if your strata allows you to sublet your car space to them). A trusted person (eg a real estate agent or a relation) who does not live in the unit can have a key.

Residential fobs and air keys are programmed for a single unit. If you need to access another unit on the estate, you must obtain a separate key.

Request for New/Replacement Fob or Air Key

  • If your garage air key is not working, the problem is often a flat battery. Check the battery before applying for a replacement.
  • Lost keys will be deactivated. Damaged keys will be destroyed and cancelled. Swipe cards will be replaced by fobs.
  • To obtain a replacement, it is necessary to determine the ID number of the key to be replaced. If it is not possible to read the ID number of the key to be replaced, it will be necessary to determine the ID numbers of all the other keys for that unit so they can be cross checked against the security database.
  • Fob and air key IDs are located on the face of fobs (and swipe cards) and on the back of air keys. If you cannot read the numbers, RSM and Security Gatehouse (24/7) have key readers that will ID the key.
  • Contact RSM to arrange a form for a replacement key (see the link below), or collect it from the Estate Management office on the corner of 45 Bowman Street (Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm). Payment must be made by Visa or Mastercard when you return the form to the RSM.
  • The completed form and proof of payment will be taken to Security, where the new key(s) will be made. Note that, especially during busy times, this may not happen immediately.
  • The purchase is recorded and a receipt issued. The unique electronic code of new fob and air key serial numbers are recorded.  The receipt date is the commencement of a 12 month warranty.  The warranty covers a defective device but it does not cover a damaged fob or air key.  A defective key replaced under warranty will be free of charge.
  • Applicants will need to provide proof of ID and residence at the particular address for permission to obtain any keys.
  • If you are renting your property via an agency, the agency will need to arrange for the purchase of the replacement fob or air key, on behalf of the owner. Please note, it will be the tenant’s responsibility to coordinate the scanning of the remaining fobs to ascertain which fob has been lost so that that fob can be cancelled.
  • No issue of a fob or air key can occur until the remaining keys have been scanned and identified and ALL sections of the application form have been completed.
  • Most stratas have limits on the number of keys that can be issued to a unit. If you have been approved for additional keys above your strata limits, please provide supporting documentation.
